Aeration/Seeding/Power Raking

Aeration

Because of the soil composition in this part of state, aeration is critical to the health of your lawn. CM’s Custom Lawn and Landscape recommends spring and fall aeration to improve air circulation and nutrient uptake in the soil as well as increase the efficiency of your irrigation practices.

Seeding

There is no doubt about it: dense turf is healthy turf, resisting weed infestation as well as insects far better than thin turf. At CM’s Custom Lawn and landscape, we believe that the best way to maintain dense turf is to over seed the turf periodically. The goal is to introduce new and improved cultivars that tend to be more disease and stress resistant. We offer this service in the fall when temperatures are more conducive to seed germination. We will aerate the turf area (we suggest double plugging to improve the rate of germination) and then seed with a certified seed. The variety of certified seed that is used is based on the needs of the site. We provide detailed irrigation instructions.

Power Raking

When thatch buildup is excessive, irrigation is less efficient and nutrients and insect control products are less effective. When thatch buildup exceeds ½ inch, we suggest power raking your lawn. This can be done in the spring or in the fall as part of a renovation process. When we perform either of these services in the spring, they precede our first application of pre-emergent with fertilizer.

Turf Renovation

Turf areas that have been badly damaged through stress, disease, insects or some combination of these factors require renovation. The renovation process involves double plugging the turf area, power raking the area, mowing the turf at a low height to brake up plugs and reduce the amount of material raked out of the turf, followed by seeding. If you like, we can cut out damaged areas with a sod cutter and lay new sod. This produces more rapid results. Either way, your turf is on the road to recovery.
